Reed Diffusers

japanese

In addition to our soap and candle range we now offer Reed Diffusers. Reed Diffusers are another way to scent your home, office, apartment etc where fire safety regulations do not allow the use of candles. They are a great way to enhance the smell of a room without an open flame.

Reed diffusers consist of three components. A glass container, a set of reed diffuser sticks/reeds, and diffuser fragrance oil. Most people use a glass bottle for the diffuser oil, as plastic or metal containers may react with the diffuser fragrance oil.

The reed diffuser uses fragrance oils mixed with a special non toxic dispersing base oil, allowing the reed diffuser to add scent to any room. The reeds themselves are made from rattan, a natural plant material. They contain tiny holes that travel the full length of the reed and draw or suck up the fragrance to help disperse it. The rattan reeds are the best performing diffuser reed, and should not be confused with bamboo or solid rattan reeds, which do not perform as well.

How to use your reed diffuser.

First remove the plastic stopper from the glass bottle and replace timber collar then insert the rattan reeds. Let these draw the diffuser oil for an hour or two then flip the reeds over to expose oil-moistened diffuser reeds to the air. The oil will continue to draw up the diffusers reeds scenting your room for several months. There are several factors that affect how long your reed diffuser oil will last such as air conditioning, ambient temperature, is it close to an open window or fan, dehumidifiers etc. To get the most out of your reed diffuser flip the diffuser reeds over about once a week or as desired for a fresh fragrance burst. Once the diffuser oil is finally used up, simply pour in an oil refill and replace the diffuser reeds. Over time the diffuser reeds get totally saturated, the holes in the reeds get clogged from dust particles and the like, and they lose their ability to draw the diffuser oil up into the reeds and scent the room with fragrance. The minimal maintenance required by the reed diffuser has made them popular for room fragrancing.

Some points to remember when using your reed diffuser.

In small spaces, like bathrooms, use less sticks. Usually 4-6 reeds work well. If you use all the reeds (10) the fragrance released can sometimes be overwhelming in small spaces. Less reeds means Less scent, More reeds means More scent. You may want to use 8-10 reeds for larger rooms where a stronger scent throw is desired.

Don’t use the same diffuser reeds when changing to a different diffuser oil, as the reeds will be clogged with the scent from the previous diffuser oil. Be sure to wash out your glass bottle (vinegar works well) before changing scents to avoid cross contamination of diffuser oils.

Do Not light diffuser reeds.

Position your reed diffuser where it is out of reach of children, pets and where it can’t be knocked over easily. The diffuser oil may stain some surfaces if spilt. Make sure you protect your surfaces. A drink coaster is a simple way to protect surfaces.
